Anyone else feeling the end of school rush?

Happy Memorial Day Reader!

This weekend definitely feels like the unofficial start of summer over here.

We have birthday celebrations, family gatherings, trips to the farmer’s market, end of school events coming up, and somehow we are also making sure we remember to pick up crickets for our gecko along the way. Healthy nutrition for all!

As exciting as this time of year is, I also know this is when food routines can start feeling more complicated for families managing food allergies, picky eating, or both.

The next few weeks tend to fill up quickly with:
• classroom parties
• sports events
• BBQs and family gatherings
• graduation celebrations
• camp prep
• less structured meal schedules

And honestly, when schedules get busy, nutrition often becomes more stressful.

This is also the time of year when many parents start worrying that their child is “living on snacks” or eating less variety than usual. But if we are being honest, sometimes parents are grabbing handfuls of snacks between activities too this time of year.

One thing I always remind families is this:
Perfect eating is not the goal during busy seasons.

Instead, focus on consistency and balance where you can.

A few things that can help:
• keep a few safe, familiar foods stocked and easy to grab
• include protein whenever possible to help kids stay fuller longer
• do not underestimate simple meals during busy weeks
• remember that appetite and routines naturally shift this time of year

I recently wrote a new post about picky eating and food allergies because I know many families are navigating both at the same time, especially heading into summer.

I also created a Food Allergy Nutrient Guide because restricted diets can make balanced nutrition feel overwhelming for parents. The guide covers important nutrients that are commonly missed with restricted diets, along with allergy-friendly food sources, substitutions, and recipes for everyday life.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll also be sharing more simple meal ideas, snack ideas, and practical strategies for managing food allergies during summer activities and travel.

Wishing you a relaxing Memorial Day weekend and an easier transition into the busy end of the school year.
